COSTA MESA, Calif. – Representatives of Small Business Development Corporation of Orange County (SBDC-OC) attended and participated in a convention of the nation’s leading diverse regional business organization that was held this year in Costa Mesa on Aug. 16 – 18.

The California Hispanic Chambers of Commerce (CHCC) convened Hispanic business owners, corporate executives and members of its more than 125 local and regional chambers of commerce for its 44th Annual Statewide Convention. SBDC-OC was among numerous sponsors for the signature event that included a golf tournament and roundtables on various topics such as international trade, employment law, government contracting, and success for women entrepreneurs, among others. SBDC-OC’s president, Jim Ely, participated in a panel on capital access for small businesses.

The convention also celebrated those making impacts in their communities and their professions. Honorees included Celia Miranda, chief executive officer and co-founder of Raincross Boxing Academy in Riverside, SBDC-OC’s nominee and winner of the CHCC Rising Star Empresaria Award.

In addition to Ely, SBDC-OC representatives at the convention included Chief Executive Officer Michael Ocasio, Senior Vice President for Commercial Lending Nestor Correa, Chief Financial Officer Carrie Miller, Larry Trujillo, board director, and Yolanda Benson, lobbyist for The Association of Financial Development Corporations which is headed by Ocasio.
